Who Needs a UK Transit Visa?

A common situation occurs when travelers purchase airline tickets with a connection through another country and later discover that a UK transit visa is required in order to transit through the United Kingdom if they do not already hold a valid British visa. If you are traveling through the UK and need to pass through immigration or change airports, you may require a UK Transit Visa. However, if your intention is to visit the UK for tourism or to see relatives or friends, you should apply for a UK Standard Tourist Visa or a UK Visitor Visa instead. A UK Transit Visa only permits you to transit through the United Kingdom and does not allow tourism, visiting family or friends, or any other type of visit. You do not need to apply for a UK Transit Visa if you already hold any other valid multiple-entry UK visa.

Documents Required for a UK Transit Visa

To apply for a UK Transit Visa, you will generally need to provide the following documents:

  • Valid passport.
  • Completed online visa application form.
  • Proof of income.
  • Evidence of sufficient personal funds to cover the journey, or sponsorship documents if another person is funding the trip.
  • Documents confirming ownership of assets (property, vehicle, land, etc.).
  • Documents confirming marital or family status.
  • Flight tickets or confirmed travel itinerary.
  • Visa for the final destination country (if required).
  • Hotel reservation or accommodation booking in the destination country.

The above list of documents is not final and may vary depending on the applicant’s individual situation. Before starting cooperation, our manager conducts a free assessment of the applicant’s situation and evaluates the chances of obtaining a visa. This significantly increases the likelihood of obtaining a UK visa due to our individual approach to each applicant. Alternatively, we can timely warn the applicant about a high probability of refusal, which may help you avoid a visa refusal as well as unnecessary loss of money and time. If the potential applicant’s situation is not sufficiently favourable for obtaining a positive decision on a UK visa application, we will provide recommendations on how the situation can be improved in order to apply for a visa in the future and maximise the chances of obtaining a UK visa.

UK Transit Visa Processing Time

Applications for a UK Transit Visa are normally processed within 2–3 weeks (10–15 working days) from the date biometric information is submitted at the UK Visa Application Centre. If you require your visa urgently, you may purchase the Priority Visa Service. The cost of this service is £500 per applicant and is payable in addition to the visa application fee. When the Priority Service is selected, visa applications are typically processed within 5–7 working days.

All UK visas are now issued in electronic format (eVisa). Once a positive decision has been made, an official notification from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will be sent to our email address. After that, our manager will assist you with registering your personal UKVI account, setting up access to your eVisa, and provide detailed guidance on how to use it when travelling to and staying in the United Kingdom.
