A B1/B2 Tourist Visa to the United States is issued if you are planning a tourist trip to the USA or if the purpose of your visit is to visit friends or relatives, undergo a medical examination, receive medical treatment, or engage in other temporary activities.
If approved, the visa is typically issued for 10 years with multiple entries. In exceptional cases, a consular officer may grant a visa for a shorter period.
As with any other embassy, a US consular officer wants to see strong evidence of your ties to Ukraine (or to the country where you legally reside at the time of your application) when you apply for a US tourist visa. Since a B1/B2 visa is typically issued for up to 10 years, applicants must demonstrate that they intend to return to their country of residence after their temporary visit to the United States.
For this reason, a positive visa decision may depend on factors such as stable employment or a regular source of income, financial support from a sponsor, sufficient funds to cover the trip, family and social ties to the country of residence, ownership of property or other assets, and a strong history of previous international travel. All applications are assessed individually based on the applicant’s overall circumstances.
The official website of the US Embassy provides general information regarding the recommended list of documents that applicants should bring to their visa interview. Interviews with a Consular Officer are usually very brief and often last only 5–10 minutes. During this short period, the officer asks questions that help determine whether a visa should be issued. It is important to note that the applicant’s case is normally reviewed and assessed before the interview takes place.
As a result, a Consular Officer does not always request supporting documents during the interview. However, in cases where additional clarification is required, the officer may ask to see documents such as an employment letter, bank statements, invitation letter, or other supporting evidence.
For this reason, we not only prepare our clients for the visa interview but also help them compile a complete package of supporting documents to maximize their chances of obtaining a US visa.

At present, the US Embassy in Kyiv does not provide consular services for tourist and visitor visa applications. Therefore, Ukrainian citizens who reside in Ukraine at the time of applying for a US visa can attend their visa interview only in Poland (Warsaw or Kraków). Alternatively, applicants may attend their interview in the country where they legally reside and hold a residence permit, temporary protection status, visa, or another form of legal stay.
However, if you are applying for a US business visa and have an official invitation from a US organization or company, it may be possible to attend the visa interview at the US Embassy in Kyiv upon prior request.
Available interview dates become visible only after the consular fee has been paid. Depending on demand, the waiting time for an interview may range from approximately 2 weeks to 1–1.5 months. The visa decision is usually communicated immediately after the interview. If the visa is approved, your passport will be retained for visa issuance and typically returned within 1–5 working days.
