Business Visa to the USA: What Documents Are Required?

  1. Visa photograph (in electronic format for uploading to the DS-160 online visa application form).
  2. Proof of income / pension statement / student certificate / sponsor documents – depending on the applicant’s circumstances.
  3. Bank certificate or bank statement.
  4. Property ownership documents (if available).
  5. Copy or original of previous passports and visas.
  6. Marriage certificate / divorce certificate / children’s birth certificates (if applicable).
  7. Business invitation letter.

You will not find a detailed list of required documents for a U.S. visitor visa on the official website of the U.S. Embassy. Generally, applicants are required to bring their valid passport, DS-160 confirmation page, and interview appointment confirmation. The Embassy also states that applicants may bring any additional documents they consider relevant to their application.

However, we strongly recommend preparing a complete set of supporting documents regardless of your circumstances. In most cases, a visa interview at the U.S. Embassy lasts only 5–7 minutes. During this time, the consular officer asks several basic questions and makes a decision on the visa application. Due to the limited interview time, supporting documents are often not reviewed.

Nevertheless, there are situations where the consular officer may have additional questions regarding your financial situation, employment, family circumstances, or the purpose of your trip. In such cases, you may be asked to provide supporting documents. If you do not have the requested documents with you, it could negatively affect the outcome of your application. For this reason, we always recommend preparing a complete set of documents in advance. The exact list of documents is determined individually for each applicant after a detailed assessment of their personal circumstances and travel plans.

How Long Does It Take to Obtain a U.S. Business Visa?

At present, the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv does not provide consular services for tourist and visitor visa applications. Therefore, Ukrainian citizens who reside in Ukraine at the time of applying for a U.S. visa can attend their visa interview only in Poland (Warsaw or Kraków). Alternatively, applicants may attend the interview in the country where they legally reside and hold a valid residence permit, temporary protection status, visa, or other form of legal residence.

However, if you are applying for a U.S. business visa and have an official invitation from a U.S. company or organization, it may be possible to request an interview at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv. The exact interview availability can only be checked after the visa application fee has been paid. In general, waiting times for an interview may range from approximately 2 weeks to 1–1.5 months. The visa decision is usually announced immediately after the interview. If your visa is approved, your passport will be retained for visa issuance and is typically returned within 1–5 business days.

US Visa After a Refusal

If you have previously applied for a US visa and were refused for any reason, there are no waiting periods or restrictions preventing you from submitting a new application.

However, depending on the reason for the refusal, it may be advisable to wait for some time in order to prepare additional supporting documents or strengthen your overall visa profile. That is why, before taking on a case involving a previous visa refusal, we first carefully analyse the applicant’s circumstances and only then advise whether it is appropriate to reapply immediately or whether it would be better to wait and improve the application before submitting it again.
