Fiancé Visa to the UK / Great Britain: What Rights Does It Provide?

  • A UK Fiancé Visa allows you to legally marry in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and remain in the UK until the expiry of your visa without leaving the country, while also allowing you to travel to and from other countries throughout the validity period of the visa.
  • If you wish to remain in the UK with your spouse for longer than six months, you will need to apply for a UK Spouse Visa. The initial Spouse Visa is granted for 2.5 years and gives you the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. Once the first Spouse Visa expires, it can be extended for a further 2 years and 9 months. After completing 5 years of residence in the UK as a spouse, you may become eligible to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), and subsequently for British citizenship.
  • You may apply for a UK Spouse Visa either from within the UK (if you are in the country on a Fiancé Visa) or from Ukraine (or any other country). The documentary requirements and application costs are generally the same as those for a Fiancé Visa.

UK Fiancé Visa Document Checklist: Required Documents for a Fiancé Visa Application

The Ukrainian applicant must provide the following documents when applying for a UK Fiancé(e) Visa:

  1. Valid international passport.
  2. TB test certificate.
  3. Proof of English language proficiency.
  4. Certificate of divorce (if previously were married).
  5. Certificate of birth of children (joint or from previous marriages).

The UK-based sponsor must provide the following documents when applying for a UK Fiancé Visa:

  1. A copy of a British passport or residence permit.
  2. Documents confirming a stable income (as part of the consultation, we provide a detailed list of documents and requirements for financial documents and the necessary amount of your income for Fiancé visa).
  3. Recent bank statements.
  4. Confirmation of place of residence in the UK.
  5. Invitation letter.
  6. Documents confirming your relationship.

The above list of documents is not final and may vary depending on the applicant’s individual situation. Before starting cooperation, our manager conducts a free assessment of the applicant’s situation and evaluates the chances of obtaining a visa. This significantly increases the likelihood of obtaining a UK visa due to our individual approach to each applicant. Alternatively, we can timely warn the applicant about a high probability of refusal, which may help you avoid a visa refusal as well as unnecessary loss of money and time. If the potential applicant’s situation is not sufficiently favourable for obtaining a positive decision on a UK visa application, we will provide recommendations on how the situation can be improved in order to apply for a visa in the future and maximise the chances of obtaining a UK visa.

UK Fiancé Visa Processing Times

You may choose the Priority Visa Service for an additional fee of £ 500. Under this service, a decision is usually made within 1.5 months. However, please note that UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) reserves the right to extend the processing time if further checks or additional information are required, even where the priority service fee has been paid.

Cost of a UK Fiancé Visa

The UK Fiancé Visa application fee is £2,064. If getting married in the United Kingdom is not essential for you, we recommend getting married in Ukraine or another country and then applying directly for a UK Spouse Visa. This is because the required documents, application fee, and processing times for a UK Fiancé Visa are generally the same as those for a UK Spouse Visa.

However, a UK Spouse Visa is granted for 2.5 years, whereas a UK Fiancé Visa is valid for only 6 months. Once your Fiancé Visa expires, you will need to prepare a similar set of documents again and pay both the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge when applying for a Spouse Visa. For this reason, in order to save time and money, and to maximise the chances of a successful application, we generally recommend applying directly for a UK Spouse Visa whenever possible.

All UK visas are now issued in electronic format (eVisa). Once a positive decision has been made, an official notification from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) will be sent to our email address. After that, our manager will assist you with registering your personal UKVI account, setting up access to your eVisa, and provide detailed guidance on how to use it when travelling to and staying in the United Kingdom.
